It’s been a rough year for Szczesny – but one mostly of his own making. Are Arsenal going to give their former starter the boot?
With Petr Cech and David Ospina on the books, Wojciech Szczesny appears to be the odd man out and Arsenal are now hearing offers for his transfer.
According to Squawka, the Dutch outfit Ajax has inquired with Arsenal about a transfer for the former Golden Glove winner in light of the impending transfer of their own goalkeeper, Jasper Cillessen, to Man United. Squawka reported that Ajax’s director of football Marc Overmars – a former Gunners employee for several years – has been making the calls to Arsene Wenger’s office about the 25-year-old Polish stopper’s availability.
Szczesny made just 17 league appearances for Arsenal last season, and was replaced by David Ospina in goal for the Gunner after making six defensive errors – only Robert Green of QPR (the worst defense in the Premier League) made more last season. Szczesny was benched by Wenger following an alleged smoking incident in the showers following a match in January.
