According to Mundo Deportivo, when the Spaniard agreed to a contract extension earlier this summer, it reduced his release clause from €150m to €30m.
Even though that new deal ties him to the Catalan giants until 2019, he has recently revealed that he will have to consider his options if there is no guarantee of significant playing time at Camp Nou.
Following the arrival of Luis Suarez, the Spanish international saw himself drop down the pecking order at the club and Arda Turan’s signing arguably signifies less opportunities for him moving forward.
Although it is reported by Sky Sports that no clubs are currently in talks with Barcelona, they claim that Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea have all been monitoring his situation and will undoubtedly be alerted by the latest report.
French champions PSG have also been paired with an interest, and so it remains to be seen which side is willing to meet the clause in the 27-year-old’s contract.
