The quest for a major scoring target for both Arsenal and Liverpool will trudge on as yet another major scoring threat has signed elsewhere.
According to ESPN FC, Porto striker Jackson Martinez has signed with Atletico Madrid for around £35 million on a four-year deal. The 28-year-old Columbian had been linked with moves to Arsenal, AC Milan and Liverpool, but Martinez’s agent Luiz Henrique Pompeo announced this week that his client had agreed to terms with the La Liga outfit.
“I can confirm I am going to Atletico,” Martinez said. “I am going there for four years but I still do not know when I will be introduced.”
Marinez added, “I have had great progression, always learning, always growing and now I’m going to Atletico where I hope to help the team and continue to grow as a player.”
The top goal scorer in Columbia’s Categoria Primera A league when he played for Independiente Medellín from 2005 to 2010, Martinez had 55 goals in 136 league appearances before moving to Chiapas in Liga MX and tacking on an additional 28 goals in just 55 appearances. But when Martinez moved to Porto of Primeria Liga, he truly became one of the world’s biggest scoring threats, recording 80 goals in just 107 total appearances. Martinez recorded over 20 goals in each of his three seasons with Porto.
