Ajax youth academy assistant Ronald de Boer has slammed the signing of Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo on loan, saying the Frenchman has “no qualities”.
Sanogo joined the Dutch side after struggling for first-team action at the Emirates and look to have made a great impression after netting a first-half hat-trick during a friendly on Monday.
De Boer, brother of Ajax head coach Frank, clearly doesn’t rate the 22-year-old who has joined the club on a season-long loan deal.
“I heard Frank say last week that this is one of the best squads with whom he has ever worked,” De Boer is quoted as saying by Metro.
“However, when I see Sanogo, I still have my doubts. I have still found no qualities with which you can do something.
“I think that Ajax has too little depth, the real speed is lacking, meaning that your opponent can never be surprised.
“An opponent of Ajax can therefore cope quite easily under pressure and that makes the team relatively easy to defend against.”
Sanogo has found it difficult to break into Arsene Wenger’s starting XI since joining from Ligue 1 side Auxerre in 2013, making just 11 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.
He spent half of last season on loan with Crystal Palace, but he failed to hit the back of the net in any of his 10 league appearances for the club, however, he did score in Palace’s 3-2 FA Cup Fourth Round win over Southampton.
