Carl Jenkinson just can’t seem to buy his way back onto the Arsenal roster. Will he ever return to the starting XI at Emirates Stadium?
Arsenal have re-signed defender Carl Jenkinson to a long-term contract, but the Gunners don’t plan to bring him back to Emirates Stadium just yet.
According to the Metro, after signing Jenkinson to a five-year deal to keep him with the team long-term, the Gunners have agreed to a £2 million loan-out to West Ham United, sending him back to the Hammers for at least another season.
Jenkinson played sparingly for Arsenal for his first three years with the team when he was first acquired out of Charlton Athletic in 2011. He scored his first and (so far) only Premier League goal during the 2013-14 season, but was loaned out to West Ham for 32 games for the 2014-15 season – impressing the Hammers during his stay.
Though the 23-year-old defender was linked to a permanent stay with West Ham after the 2014-15 season, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger decided to keep Jenkinson on the payroll for a little while longer.
