Gunners confident of landing experienced midfielder.
Arsenal have made an offer of £23.8 million for one of their prime midfield targets, German international Sami Khedira, reports the Metro.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add a bit more steel to his midfield to arrest his side’s poor run of form against the top teams in the Premier League, and believes that Khedira would help provide the right balance between attack and defence for the Gunners.
The Real Madrid man has only one-year remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu, and if the reported bid from Arsenal is true, they could well be very close to landing the 27-year-old this summer.
Khedira is also good friends with Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, who is also believed to be playing a part in luring his international teammate to the Emirates.
The Los Blancos may also be inclined to sell the former Stuttgart ace as they hope to add further to their midfield this summer, and one could see the deal being closed pretty soon after Khedira returns from the World Cup.
Arsenal’s need for an out-and-out defensive midfielder has been well documented, and signing Khedira would go a long way to appeasing the fans after last summer’s inactivity in the transfer window.
