Arsenal make €30 million bid to sign Real Madrid star, but may have trouble convincing him to move to Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have made a bid of €30 million (approximately £25.6m) to sign Real Madrid playmaker Angel Di Maria, according to Goal.com.
The Argentina international midfielder appears to be surplus to requirements at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu after new manager Carlo Ancelotti brought in Isco to compete for a place in attacking midfield alongside Mesut Ozil, Kaka, Casemiro, Jese Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo, and with Luka Modric, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira and Asier Illarramendi in the middle of the park.
The offer from the Gunners was submitted on Tuesday evening, as soon as their place in the UEFA Champions League group stage was confirmed, and Arsene Wenger must now wait to speak to the player.
Whilst Di Maria is available, Real Madrid are reluctant to sanction his sale until their world record transfer for Gareth Bale is confirmed.
When permission is eventually granted, Wenger may have a difficult task convincing Di Maria to move to Emirates Stadium, as the Argentine is keen to fight for his place.
“I understand the club are strengthening and they are precise in what they do,” said Di Maria last weekend.
“But I signed a contract until 2018 a year ago and my desire is to stay in the Bernabeu.”
Arsenal have also been linked with Di Maria’s Real Madrid team-mates Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema.
