Gunners keen on Real Madrid man.
Arsenal are said to be preparing a surprise move for former Liverpool full-back Alvaro Arbeloa following the loaning of Carl Jenkinson to West Ham on Thursday, according to the Metro.
The 31-year-old is said to have been targeted by Arsene Wenger as he looks to bring in a stop gap player while youngster Calum Chambers matures and grows into his new surroundings at the club.
However, should the Gunners make their move for the ex-Reds star he would become their third right-back signing of the transfer window.
Arbeloa can also fill in on the left and on occasion, through the middle, and it is this versatility that has brought him to the forefront of Wenger’s attentions.
Arsenal are still anticipating club captain Thomas Vermaelen to head for the exit this summer and in his wake there will nobody able to fill in at both left and centre-back.
The Spanish international still has two-years remaining on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, and though reports in Spain have hinted that Madrid would be open to selling, he is known to be a firm favourite of coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Arbeloa joined Real back in 2009 and has gone on to make 189 appearances for the club.
