The Anderlecht wonderkid has previously been linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester City, however The Mirror reports Praet is set for a move to the Saints.
Praet recently signed with agents Stellar Group who also represent James Ward-Prowse and former Southampton stars Luke Shaw and Gareth Bale.
The 21-year-old starred for Anderlecht last season and was named the Belgian top flight’s best player as his side finished the season in third place.
Saints boss Ronald Koeman is believed to be interested in Praet and Stellar Group’s well-established relationship with Southampton could see the Belgian international make the move to St Mary’s.
Koeman is looking at life after Morgan Schneiderlin, with the midfielder expected to seal a move to Manchester United in the next few days.
Southampton has already lost star right-back Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool, however Koeman has brought in the highly-rated Cedric Soares as a replacement for the England international.
