Arsenal goalkeeper on shortlist of Serie A side for summer deal.
Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone is a transfer target for Serie A side Cagliari, according to Italian source Calcio Mercato.
The 25 year-old appears to be surplus to requirements at Emirates Stadium, with Poland international Wojciech Szczesny currently first choice and his compatriot Lukasz Fabianski next in line between the posts.
Mannone made 13 appearances for the Gunners this past season due to injuries suffered by both Szczesny and Fabianski, including four in the UEFA Champions League, but when the two Poles recovered he was again frozen out of the side.
Whilst goalkeepers often make their breakthrough at a later age than players in outfield positions, it is understandable that Mannone would seek regular first team football, and that does not look likely with Arsenal for the foreseeable future.
At Cagliari he would challenge the 28 year-old Michael Agazzi and 34 year-old Vlada Avramov for a place in the starting line-up, and the chance to return to his home country may be one he would relish.
Cagliari are also looking at Yann Sommer of FC Basel.
