A rising star in Spain, 16-year-old Oriol Busquets has chosen Barcelona over the Premier League. Is he a future star?
Barcelona have secured a deal for teenage midfield sensation Oriol Busquets, beating out the likes of Arsenal and Man United to seal the deal.
According to the Express, a Spanish newspaper confirmed that the defending La Liga and Champions League champions had agreed to a three-year deal with Busquets, who was referred to as being “one of the great promises of European football.”
Arsenal and Man United had previously made overtures to Busquets about a possible deal out of Barcelona’s youth academy, with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in particular having pulled the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral from Barcelona’s youth group. Man United also has a history with the Barca academy, landing Gerard Pique in 2004.
The 16-year-old midfielder has no relations to Sergio Busquets, but the Metro called him a “tall, box-to-box midfield player.”
