Arsenal and Manchester United have received a boost in the chase for Julian Draxler, with Schalke denying reports the star midfielder has agreed to join Wolfsburg.
Draxler has been heavily linked with a move away from Schalke this summer, with reports claiming the 21-year-old was close to joining fellow Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said reports suggesting that Draxler had asked teammates how he’d look in a Wolfsburg shirt were completely false.
“Both Julian and [boss Andre Breitenreiter] were more surprised than anyone to hear these reports,” Heldt is quoted as saying by Daily Star.
“Julian has vehemently denied having uttered anything even remotely like that.
“As for Andre and the handshake, it was a very normal gesture after a substitution. Also, he had no “tears in his eyes”, as was reported.”
Draxler has also been a long-term transfer target of Arsenal, while recent reports suggest Manchester United have also joined the race for the German international.
The youngster has scored 18 Bundesliga goals in 118 games since making his debut for the club in 2011.
