Arsenal are leading the chase for Everton midfielder James McCarthy but could face competition from Manchester United and Inter Milan, according to the Irish Independent.

The 24-year-old has been in superb form of late, and is valued at around £25m by his current club, who hope to keep hold of him despite strong interest this winter.
Arsenal and United need additions in midfield, however, with the Gunners in particular struggling without the injured Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.
United, meanwhile, have been linked with a host of big names in that position, including Kevin Strootman of AS Roma, who is thought to be their main target.
