Diaby had been slowly working his way back to full fitness after making just two appearances for Arsenal since March 2013, when he tore a knee ligament.
And after making a tentative substitute appearance last season his only outing this term came in the Capital One Cup defeat to Southampton.
Diaby has suffered terribly with injuries ever since breaking his ankle at Sunderland four months after joining Arsenal from Auxerre in the January window of 2006, making just 182 appearances for the club in nine seasons.
This latest injury will come as a terrible blow, though, and could very well put an end to his association with the club at the end of the season.
