Hodgson has the luxury of having his preferred back four all fit and ready and he will want to them to establish a relationship ahead of the tournament starting.
Johnson had a relatively inconsistent season with Liverpool in what was a good year for the club, but with Tottenham Hotspur’s Klye Walker injured the 29-year-old is certainly the preferred choice.
