Le Havre’s Benjamin Mendy not set for the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have missed out on French teenager Benjamin Mendy with the youngster set to join Marseille from Ligue 2 outfit Le Havre.
The 18-year-old left-back was linked with a move to both Arsenal and Juventus, with the Daily Mail claiming last month that the Gunners had submitted a £2.5m bid for Mendy.
But Ligue 1 giants Marseilles confirmed via their official website on Monday that they have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the France youth international.
Mendy is Marseille’s second recruit of the close season following the arrival of Les Bleus international Dimitri Payet from Lille.
The youngster had one year remaining on his current deal at Le Havre and the club were always likely to cash in on the teenager this summer, rather than risk losing him for free in a year’s time.
Mendy, who has represented Les Bleus at Under-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 level, confirmed the news on his official twitter account, with the below message which reads: “Hello Twitter, I am officially Marseillais.”
Hello les twittos je suis officielement marseillais #TeamOM
