Karius, who had been free to talk to other clubs due to his contract situation, will now continue his development at Mainz, with the former Manchester City trainee viewed as the natural successor to Manuel Neuer amongst German football fans.
Talk of a potential move for Karius from Arsenal had hotted up recently after a falling out between Wojciech Szczesny and Arsene Wenger after the Polish international was caught smoking in the showers.
