Arsenal need to sign a senior replacement for injured striker Olivier Giroud according to pundit and coach Gary Neville, report the Mail, with time running out for Arsene Wenger to strengthen his squad before the transfer window slams shut on Monday evening.
The Gunners used new signing Alexis Sanchez as a striker in the midweek Champions League tie against Besiktas but, despite his winning goal, the Chilean seemed uncomfortable in a role that he has not played regularly during his career with Udinese and Barcelona.
Wenger still has youngsters Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell to call upon, but both are inexperienced at Premier League level, leading Neville to suggest that the club need to bring in a new centre forward, as well as perhaps a central midfielder:
“If we’re judging them on getting third or fourth place, then Arsenal might not have a problem. But if we’re judging them in terms of targeting a title, which I think is where Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal fans are at, then they’re going to have to sign a centre forward – and probably a central midfield player as well.”
