Ozil, 25, joined Arsenal for £42.3m on August transfer deadline day and the German has beeb a revelation for Arsene Wenger’s improving side.
Real landed their own marquee signing the day before Ozil’s departure, prizing Gareth Bale from Tottenham in a £86m world-record deal.
It has been speculated that Real needed to sell Ozil in order to fully fund Bale’s arrival but Ancelotti has hinted that was not the case, admitting Los Blancos should not have allowed the playmaker to leave Spain.
“I think we made a mistake when we gave him the possibility to leave the club,” said Ancelotti.
“However, we have fantastic strikers and don’t need a back-up after Higuain’s departure.”
