Akpom has entered the final six months of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and as a result is free to start negotiations with foreign clubs.
The 19-year-old has barely featured for the Gunners as yet – with just five appearances in all competitions to date – but manager Arsene Wenger views the forward as a great prospect for the future.
Wenger’s options in attack have greatly reduced during this January transfer window with Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo joining Inter Milan and Crystal Palace respectively on-loan.
Therefore Akpom may get a few more chances before the season is out, that is if his head isn’t turned by the interest in him from Dortmund and the Eredivisie.
