Manchester City centre-back Matija Nastasic has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal in recent times and Manuel Pellegrini has now revealed the youngster could be sold.
The 21-year-old missed much of the last season due to injury and has since seen his place in the pecking order slip.
Captain Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis, Derdyck Boyata and new £32m signing Eliaquim Mangala all pose competition in central defence and Pellegrini admits Nastasic needs to be playing regular first team football.
“Matija needs to play. We already have four centre-backs, Demichelis, Kompany, Mangala and Boyata, as well as four full-backs,” the 60-year-old was quoted by the Daily Express.
“So we will see in the next few days what happens with Nastasic. He is an important player, but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play.”
However, the Gunners do face stiff competition in the pursuit of the Serbia international with Juventus also keen on signing the starlet.
The North Londoners are on the lookout for support at the back since selling skipper Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona in a £15m deal earlier this month.
Nastasic is an attractive prospect due to his age and the fact he already has significant Premier League experience, having played 51 times in all competitions for City since joining from Fiorentina in the summer of 2012.
