Gourcuff isn’t prepared to take a pay cut.
Olympique Lyon are currently trying to reduce their wage bill, but highest earner and Arsenal target Yoann Gourcuff isn’t prepared to lower the midfielder’s weekly pay, according to Le 10 Sport.
The 27-year-old is thought to be paid around £90,000-a-week by the Ligue 1 outfit and the club want the Frenchman to lower those demands.
However, with Gourcuff’s current contract not running out until 2015 the France international holds all the cards and as a result the only option Lyon may be left with is to sell.
This is where the Gunners come in, as reports from the Daily Star suggest that the north London club are prepared to reignite their interested in the attacking midfielder.
If a move to the Emirates Stadium were an option then Gourcuff is thought to be prepared to lower those wage demands, although question marks remain over the player’s form.
The Lyon man has had an extremely indifferent career, enjoying success at both Bordeaux and Stade Rennes, but failing to perform after big money moves to AC Milan and now the former 2010 champions.
Comparisons with Zinedine Zidane that the midfielder once enjoyed have long since vanished and Arsene Wenger could be signing the wrong sort of player.
With an abundance of attacking midfielders already at the Emirates it could be questioned whether the transfer would be sensible anyway, as Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere are all stronger candidates.
