Arsenal are reported to have opened talks with Serie A giants AS Roma over the possible signing of Italian striker Mattia Destro, according to Calciomercato.it.
The Gunners are keen to sign a new forward player after looking like losing main front-man Olivier Giroud to injury until as late as January, and Destro has now emerged as Arsene Wenger’s main target.
The 23-year-old was in fine form last season as he scored 13 goals in 20 games to attract interest from the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan, but he has now been the subject of an official approach from Arsenal.
The north London giants have been told that Destro will cost around £19m, and it now just remains to be seen if Arsenal will meet that price, having passed up the chance to sign the likes of Mario Balotelli and Loic Remy for cheaper this summer.
