Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has made a bid of hundreds of millions of dollars for the Outdoor Channel.
Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has made a $227 million bid for the Outdoor Channel, according to a report from the Denver Post.
The American – a keen fisherman – owns several sports franchises through his company Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, including the NFL team St Louis Rams, NHL side Colorado Avalanche, and NBA franchise Denver Nuggets, and has also recently bought a couple of shopping malls in the United States, but this is his first foray into the world of television.
The news will have little consequence for Arsenal in truth – Stan Kroenke is a billionaire and one of the richest men in the world in his own right, but the Gunners’ fans have been keen for similar investment in their team for the last few years – not only to keep pace with the teams at the top of the Barclays Premier League, but also to avoid being overtaken by them.
In recent years, heavy spending by Chelsea, Manchester City and even Tottenham Hotspur has seen those clubs join Arsenal and Manchester United in the hunt for the top four UEFA Champions League places, and the Gunners are less certain of a place in the top four than ever.
Although Arsenal have adhered to the rules of UEFA Financial Fair Play more than most sides – posting a profit each year instead of merely reducing their losses – it is now time for them to build on their solid base and start to be competitive for trophies again.
