The Gunners looked the likeliest to score all game and had the endeavour to get forward, but couldn’t break through the staunch Welsh defence.
There was certainly an element of smash and grab to the winner from Gomis with goal-line technology having to be consulted as Ospina clawed it free but after it had crossed the line.
Here’s how we rated a frustrating Arsenal performance:
GK: David Ospina – 4
Made a couple of rudimentary stops in the first half, before pouncing like a cat in the second half to deny an onrushing Ki.
But his dive for the eventual goal from Gomis was exceptionally poor in that it was so slow, allowing the ball to cross the line before he could get to it and the Welsh side to achieve a famous double.
RB: Hector Bellerin – 5
Looked like an Arsenal right-back would have problems against with Jefferson a la Calum Chambers in the reverse fixture in 2014, but Bellerin – in an almost representation of his season – grew with the game, even getting the best of the Ecuadorian in the second half – could have done better on the cross for the goal mind.
