ST: Olivier Giroud – 3/10
Gave his colleagues a mountain to climb with a daft red card born out of the frustration of having missed a couple of great chances, and had a few decisions go against him. After Walcott’s impact off the bench, Giroud may find himself among the substitutes for the foreseeable future.
Substitutes
Francis Coquelin – 6/10
The first 65 minutes showed that the Gunners cannot afford to leave the Frenchman out. He is their only defensive-minded midfielder and helped to reduce the counter-attacking threat from the hosts.
Theo Walcott – 7/10
Proved that Wenger was wrong not to start him ahead of Giroud with a rapid burst onto a Sanchez through ball and tidy finish which gave Arsenal hope. Looked the most likely to grab an equaliser.
Joel Campbell – 6/10
The Costa Rica international, largely a forgotten figure at the Emirates, put himself about in a bid to make an impression and did a few good things, but also gave the ball away during several attacks.
