Bacary Sagna – 7/10
Bacary Sagna dealt well with Manchester City’s threat on the right flank well – Samir Nasri had a quiet game against his old team.
Sagna also got forward well, and fired in a couple of wonderful crosses.
Per Mertesacker – 7/10
Though Man City’s quick passing highlighted Per Mertesacker’s poor mobility, for the rest of the game, he orchestrated proceedings well from centre back.
The Germany defender won almost every header, and showed typically good timing in the tackle.
Thomas Vermaelen – 6/10
Thomas Vermaelen remains a great backup central defender, but remains prone to naively stepping up to meet players in the hole and leaving space behind.
He appears a more solid player than for much of the first half of last season, but remains inferior to the injured Laurent Koscielny.
Kieran Gibbs – 7/10
Kieran Gibbs is a superb full back going forward, with pace and skill, and looking far from out of place when involved in Arsenal’s one touch quick passing in the attacking third.
He still has lessons to learn at the back however, and his failure to track David Silva’s run for the opening goal of the game showed how costly that can be.
