Gunners player ratings from Arsenal 4-0 Coventry City at Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup as Lukas Podolski (2), Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla scored and Gedion Zelalem made his debut.
Lukasz Fabianski – 7/10
Lukasz Fabianski made some impressive saves, but his reputation for mistakes was not aided by some miscontrol early in the second half that won Coventry a corner.
Had the Sky Blues capitalised on that opportunity, Fabianski might have been rather red faced. In the end though, he was a key reason for Arsenal keeping a clean sheet, and is a worthy backup to Wojciech Szczesny in the Gunners’ goal.
Carl Jenkinson – 7/10
Carl Jenkinson is considered amongst the best athletes in the Arsenal squad, and his stamina is a real asset for a full back.
That was illustrated tonight as the Englishman galloped up and down the line with aplomb, firing in a series of dangerous crosses.
Per Mertesacker – 7/10
BFG Per Mertesacker was rather surprisingly turned by Coventry captain Carl Baker in an enterprising run in the first half, but returned to his usual self to marshal the defence for the rest of the match.
Laurent Koscielny – 8/10
Arsenal played without a natural anchor midfielder against Coventry City, and it was down to Laurent Koscielny to make a number of interceptions on the edge of the area – preventing the visitors from making chances.
Kieran Gibbs – 8/10
Kieran Gibbs possesses all the traits to become a top class full back. The Englishman has come on in leaps and bounds in terms of positioning, is rarely beaten for pace, and readily overlaps to provide an option in attack.
Assisted Olivier Giroud’s goal.
