Gunners pick up 1-0 today at home to the Baggies…
Arsenal player ratings
Manager: Arsene Wenger: 7/10
With the likes of Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott unavailable, Arsenal’s team pretty much picked itself, with Podolski, Ozil and Cazorla forming a midfield trio behind Giroud. They helped the Gunners dominate possession, and although the scoreline was narrow, the result was never really in doubt.
- 01 Wojciech Szczesny – 6/10
One of the Pole’s easier afternoons of this Premier League season. He did everything expected of him with assertiveness however, and made a smart block off Amalfitano in the second half.
- 03 Bacary Sagna – 7/10
Strong shift from the right-back, who’s probably leaving at the end of the season when his contract expires. Seven clearances, five headers won, one tackle won, three interceptions and one key pass made.
- 17 Nacho Monreal – 6/10 (Vermaelen, 80′)
While the Spaniard did well offensively, timing his telling runs beyond Podolski well, he was occasionally caught of position at the back – although thankfully for Arsenal, it wasn’t to prove costly today.
- 04 Per Mertesacker – 6/10
Passed the ball well from the back, barely giving it away, helping the Gunners dominate possession. He even won a few races with Saido Berahino, despite his apparent lack of pace!
- 06 Laurent Koscielny – 7/10
As composed as ever at the back. The Frenchman let his partner marshal the defence, while he picked up the Baggies runners. Completed every pass he made in the first-half, and barely gave it away in the second either.
