Lars Bender has been a major Arsenal target since the summer began. Will the German star be wearing a different shade of red this season?
Not to be outdone by Man United’s recent spending spree, Arsenal are ready to shell out over £50 million for a pair of midfield superstars.
According to the Metro, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has added £32 million-rated Arturo Vidal from Juventus and £22 million-rated Lars Bender from Bayer Leverkusen to his summer wish list. The increased pursuit of Vidal and Bender comes on the heels of Arsenal missing out on top midfield prospects Geoffrey Kondogbia and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Getting one of the two midfield stars would be a major acquisition for Arsenal – but getting both of them would require significant finesse with a Mathieu Flamini likely the odd man out if the club is eager to land the duo.
Vidal is a two-time Serie A Team of the Year player and is coming off a sensational performance with Chile in the 2015 Copa America tournament. In four years and 124 appearances with Juventus, Vidal has 35 goals.
The 26-year-old Bender has been a mainstay on the Leverkusen roster since 2009, scoring 14 goals in 156 appearances for the Bundesliga club.
