Arsenal are reportedly plotting a late bid for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender, according to the Daily Express.
The Gunners are expected to be active in the final week of the transfer window, but fans may be dismayed by the fact that they are being linked with another midfielder.

Arsenal in transfer battle with Liverpool for ace
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema had been linked with a move to the Emirates and was reportedly set to be unveiled ahead of the Liverpool game on Monday night.
However, according to his agent it doesn’t appear as though he will be leaving the Bernabeu anytime soon, which in turn suggests that Arsenal will have to look elsewhere.
The Express, as reported by Sky Sports, suggest that Arsene Wenger sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old German ace during their Champions League playoff clash with Lazio last week.
If the Bundesliga outfit fail to make the group stages, that could put them at a disadvantage in their bid to keep Bender, who would then be likely to move on.
It is understood that his arrival would provide further competition in midfield, with Mathieu Flamini expected to leave before the end of the week.
