Arsenal are weighing up a bid for Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld as a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, according to the Daily Star.
Manchester City’s Matija Nastasic and Olympiacos star Kostas Manolas are also still in Arsene Wenger’s sights, but he has been alerted to the possible availability of Alderweireld after he was left out of his side’s squad for the Spanish Super Cup.
The Belgian international has struggled to break into the Atletico starting lineup since his move from Ajax last summer, with Diego Godin and Miranda ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment due to their immense form at the back.
Still, Alderweireld could prove a useful signing for the Gunners after Vermaelen’s departure to Barcelona left them short of rotation options in their back four.
