Gunners eyeing Fabian Schar.
Arsenal are interested in a deal for FC Basel defender Fabian Schar, according to The Daily Mirror.
Gunners scouts have watched the youngster, 21, play in the Champions League for Basel this season, including 90 minutes in the Swiss club’s shock 2-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in September.
Schar was also part of the team that reached the Europa League semi-final last season, defeating Arsenal’s fierce rivals Tottenham on the way.
The centre-half is a regular for club and country and is set to feature in next summer’s World Cup for Switzerland.
But the North London outfit could land Schar for as little as £5m and boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen to move for the player before his stock rises.
Gunners club captain Thomas Vermaelen has denied he wants to leave the club but it is thought the Belgian could leave in January in a bid for first team football ahead of the World Cup.
