How the Gunners are likely to start at St James’ Park.
With Everton losing to Southampton on Saturday, Arsenal really have a chance to cement fourth place in the Premier League when they face Newcastle United.
The Magpies have been in dire form of late whilst the Gunners brushed Hull City aside 3-0 in their last match – which is incidentally a dress rehearsal for the FA Cup final.
Here is how the Gunners are expected to lineup at St James’ Park.
GK – 1. Wojciech Szczesny
The Pole has been something of a revelation this season and there won’t be the same concerns over who should be in goal for the north Londoners come 2014/15.
RB – 3. Bacary Sagna
Arsene Wenger admitted this week that the club were nowhere near tying up a new deal for Sagna and therefore this could be one of the last matches the Frenchman plays for them.
LB – 5. Thomas Vermaelen
Another who has been strongly linked with a move away is the club captain, but with Kieran Gibbs injured and Nacho Monreal short on form, the skipper will be required at left-back.
CB – 4. Per Mertesacker
If Vermaelen were to leave the Emirates Stadium then this German would be a ready-made replacement as leader and has fully settled in English football now.
CB – 6. Laurent Koscielny
Yet Mertesacker is nowhere near as effective at the back when he doesn’t have his French partner alongside him and the duo make up one of the best defensive pairings in the league.
