Can the Gunners secure their first trophy for nine years…?
Here’s the side we expect Arsene Wenger to select in today’s FA Cup final against Hull City at Wembley.
GK) Wojciech Szczesny
It will be heartbreaking for Lukasz Fabianski, who has played in goal of every other match during the tournament, but we reckon Arsene Wenger sill select his first choice stopper Szczesny in the final. Fabianski’s contract has expired, and he’s expected to leave in the summer – meaning the Frenchman has no real reason to keep his reserve stopper happy.
DR) Bacary Sagna
Like Fabianksi, Sagna is leaving in the summer, but he’s by far and away Arsenal’s best right-back. The Frenchman will definitely start barring a late injury.
DC) Per Mertesacker
The giant German is practically unbeatable in the air, and will have to face the powerful Yannick Sagbo for Hull, as Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic are both cup-tied.
DC) Laurent Koscielny
Koscielny is superb positionally, and is also very good at carrying the ball out from defence.
DL) Kieran Gibbs
Gibbs has often been preferred to Nacho Monreal at left-back for Arsenal when both are fit, and the Englishman is expected to start the Cup final, with his Spanish understudy on the bench.
