Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger faced heavy criticism after failing to sign a striker during the summer window, despite being heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
According to the Daily Express, the Gunners have plans for the winter as they are rumoured to be lining up a January bid worth £22m for Juventus striker Simone Zaza.
Wenger has already endured heavy criticism for the team’s lack of spending despite reportedly having a £200m budget.
Zaza offers relative upside though, as he scored 20 goals in two seasons with Sassuolo before transferring to Juventus this summer.
Arsenal are keen on strengthening its attack and taking some of the goalscoring load off Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners’ depth has become even thinner with Danny Welbeck suffering a knee injury that may keep him out for three months.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can land the Italian international and solve their striker woes.
They will have to turn to Theo Walcott for the time being though, and now would be a great time for the England international to finally deliver on his potential.
