Gunners to make another offered for Real Madrid star Higuain.
The longest running transfer saga of the summer took another twist on Sunday, after Napoli withdrew their interest in Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, reports the Daily Mail.
The Italians were thought to be close to a deal for the 25-year-old Argentine but boss Rafa Benitez, formerly of Liverpool and Chelsea, is unwilling to pay Real’s £35m asking price despite selling Edinson Cavani to PSG for £54m.
Arsenal are now set to make another bid for the Argentina international, who has made no secret of his desire to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
The Gunners had agreed a £25m deal for Higuain and are believed to have agreed personal terms with the player’s father, Jorge, before Los Blancos raised their asking price.
Higuain has scored 107 La Liga goals for Los Merengues since moving to the Spanish capital from River Plate in 2005. In that time, only Lionel Messi and Higuain’s teammate Cristiano Ronaldo have scored more league goals in Spain.
