The Metro report that the Gunners chief has been eager to bring the Italian to the Premier League for a number of seasons and will look to capitalise on AC Milan’s decision to not make their loan deal for the forward a permanent one.
The 24-year-old has scored a quite ordinary seven goals this season in 29 appearances, though it must be said he’s managed just two in 11 since making the move to the San Siro in January.
But Destro would certainly provide an alternative dimension to the Gunners attacking game, proving an entirely different prospect to current centre forward Olivier Giroud.
Whilst the Frenchman is exceptional at hold-up play, he isn’t the most mobile or quick upfront or useful on the counter-attack, things with Destro excel at.
Perhaps Arsene Wenger has taken Thierry Henry’s criticism to heart following the stalemate with Chelsea at the weekend, the Gunners legend said Arsenal needed an improved presence upfront as Giroud was not of the standard to sustain a title challenge and Wenger will be looking to get it with Destro.
