Arsenal linked with £12 million deal for Juventus defender as replacement for Bacary Sagna.
Arsenal are readying a £12 million bid for Stephan Lichtsteiner of Juventus, according to the Daily Express.
The Switzerland international right back could be a replacement for Bacary Sagna, with the Gunners defender currently fluttering his eyelashes in the direction of Paris Saint-Germain.
Lichtsteiner has been a tremendous asset for Juve this season, playing a big role in the Scudetto triumph.
The Turin side conceded only 24 goals in 38 games this season, keeping an astonishing 19 clean sheets – incredibly, that’s half of their total matches in Serie A.
What’s more, Lichtsteiner scored four times and assisted two goals in the league, indicating that he is as good an attacking threat as he is in defence.
To help maximise his ability going forward, Lichtsteiner plays more of a wing back role in Serie A ahead of the three centre backs in Juventus’ formation.
He would likely take some time to adapt to playing in Arsenal’s back four, with the north London side unlikely to switch formation any time soon.
The other issue for Arsenal is that Lichtsteiner is 29 years of age, and whilst that is a year younger than Sagna, it is hard to see the Gunners spending £12m on a player with only a few years left of top level football.
