Arsenal set for surprise move to sign Iceland international forward.
Arsenal are set to make a bid to sign Ajax forward Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, according to Dutch publication VoetbalZone.
The Gunners have been seemingly spurred into action by their woeful start to the season – a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa in which everything that could go wrong did.
With a crucial UEFA Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce on Wednesday, Arsenal will need to act quickly, and a move for Sigthorsson could be the first of many before the window closes.
Iceland international Sigthorsson has scored an impressive 20 goals in 40 appearances for Ajax since signing in 2011, but that low number of appearances is due to an injury hit couple of years, with an ankle fracture ruling him out for five months of the last campaign.
Having previously stated it would be an honour to play under Frank de Boer and Dennis Bergkamp at Ajax, there may now be an opportunity for Sigthorsson to follow in Gunners legend Bergkamp’s footsteps once again and play for Arsenal.
