Former Gunner and Chelsea star could make return to Arsenal in January transfer window, but Manchester City may attempt to hijack deal.
Arsenal will battle Manchester City in January for the right to sign Lassana Diarra from Lokomotiv Moscow, according to the Daily Mirror.
The former Chelsea midfielder has greatly impressed in the Russian side’s ranks since moving to the capital in August, and both Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini are on the lookout for a defensive midfielder.
Diarra also previously played for Arsenal in 2007, but was rarely given a first team opportunity by Wenger, and had more success with Chelsea and Portsmouth.
He signed for Real Madrid in 2009 before again moving on.
Diarra is tenacious in the tackle, athletic, and a fine passer of the ball, and at 28 he is younger than both Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, while not likely to cost the earth.
