The Gunners are considering bringing back ex-captain Fabregas.
Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas could make a sensational return to Arsenal this summer as the north Londoners prepare a £35m bid, according to the Mirror.
Ever since returning to his boyhood club from the Gunners back in 2011, things haven’t gone as smoothly for Fabregas as he would have hoped and Barca are willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old.
The north Londoners have first refusal on any potential deal involving their former captain, due to a clause they had established when the Spain international made the £29m move to the Nou Camp three years ago.
It states that the Catalans must inform them if they receive a bid for Fabregas and Arsene Wenger is then allowed to match it – and if not the fee is shared between the two clubs.
Wenger is in the market for a central midfielder, but would prefer a more defensively minded player – although the Frenchman’s admiration for his former star would make him consider this deal.
The move would certainly please the Emirates Stadium faithful as well, with Fabregas becoming a firm fans’ favourite during his nine year spell with the club.
Manchester City and Manchester United are almost certain to show interest as well, with the latter making two unsuccessful bids for the Spaniard in 2013.
City would be drawn to Fabregas due to the fact the midfield ace would count towards their homegrown quota – having been developed in north London from the age of 16.
It’s been a difficult past 12 months in Catalonia for the Spanish midfielder, struggling to obtain regular game time up against the likes of Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Xavi and also being booed by his own supporters.
