Arsenal set to embark on mammoth spending spree in last two weeks of transfer window.
Arsenal are set to make a huge statement of intent with a massive £100 million spending spree before the end of the transfer window.
According to the BBC, the Gunners will attempt to sign Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, and could add to the squad with two or three further additions – likely a goalkeeper, defensive player, and perhaps a midfielder.
Benzema could be the world class striker that Arsenal require, and manager Arsene Wenger is ready to commit £40 million to bringing the France international to Emirates Stadium.
The fact that Benzema and current Gunners forward Olivier Giroud have not worked well together as a strike partnership for the French side will be a concern, but perhaps given regular training together, an understanding could blossom.
Regardless, the two possess very different attributes, and each player could offer Arsenal certain qualities for particular opponents.
Di Maria is a versatile midfielder capable of playing both centrally and on either flank, and his creativity and delivery are amongst the best in the world.
Given the injury crisis currently dogging Arsenal – particularly in defence – it is little surprise that a defensive player is being considered, and that phrasing is important as it suggests a player capable of both playing in the back four and in the anchor midfield role.
FC Schalke 04 defender Matthias Ginter would be a good option, but the BBC also claim that Arsenal are also looking at Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho.

Arsenal are looking at signing a goalkeeper, with the Daily Telegraph reporting that the club are currently deciding between Valencia’s Vicente Guaita and Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic.
It is not known whether Arsenal will go back in for Newcastle United star Yohan Cabaye, but the Telegraph claim that the Gunners want to sign more than one midfielder.
