The Gunners could be all set to have Juventus star midfielder Arturo Vidal signed, sealed and delivered to Emirates Stadium now that Manchester United have backed out of the bidding.
According to the Independent, Man United boss Louis van Gaal lost interest in Vidal after he reportedly crashed his Ferrari 458 in Santiago last Tuesday while drunk. The Independent also reports that Real Madrid have withdrawn interest in Vidal due to the drunk-driving incident. The incident resulted in a suspension of Vidal’s license, but he is still going to play for Chile in the Copa America.
This in turn leaves Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as the last man standing with the money to bring Vidal into the fold. Man United previously set the pace for bidding with a potential £40 million purchase, but in the wake of Vidal’s car crash, Vidal’s stock has likely tanked as well, which could allow Arsenal to get the midfield-hero at a bargain price.
The 28-year-old Chilean midfielder has 35 goals in 124 appearances with Juventus and has made two Serie A Team of the Year rosters in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Thus far in the Copa America tournament, Vidal leads all goal-scorers with three, including two in a match against Mexico.
