Schneiderlin could become the defensive midfielder the club desire.
Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is set to become an Arsenal player this summer as the club prepare a £12m offer, according to the Daily Star.
Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a defensive midfielder in the close season with doubts over the capabilities of Mikel Arteta in the role.
The manager needs an anchorman to allow the creativity and attacking flair of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere to flourish.
There have been rumours the Gunners are trying to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, but the German has since revealed he does not want to leave his current club.
Therefore Wenger has turned his attention to Schneiderlin, with the 24-year-old admitting he wants to play Champions League football in order to further his career.
The Frenchman has been with the Saints for six years, signing from Strasbourg back in 2008 when the Hampshire side were still in League One.
Schneiderlin has been instrumental in their back-to-back promotions and successive top 10 Premier League finishes since then, playing 226 matches for the club in all competitions.
