Gunners knocked back in pursuit of Roma star.
Arsenal have had no luck in their pursuit of highly rated Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi as the Italian giants do not want to entertain any bids for the 23-year old. Roma believe that Florenzi is the future of the club, and thus want to keep him at all costs, according to the Metro.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger meanwhile, is known to rate the central midfielder very highly, but the prospect of the Gunners signing him remains very bleak. Young Italians usually prefer to stay in Serie-A, particularly in their formative years, and it looks like the Gunners have to look elsewhere for more midfield reinforcements.
Arsenal are believed to be in the market foremost for an enforcer as Wenger wants to replace his ageing Spanish ace Mikel Arteta with a defensive minded player to offer more protection to his back line.
But, according to Sky Italia, Roma have rejected an initial approach from Arsenal because they believe the versatile midfielder will play a huge role in the club making a title charge next term.
Florenzi has four national team caps already for the Azzurri, and narrowly missed out on Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad this time around.
