Arsenal have received a welcome morale boost with the news that Bacary Sagna could be available to face Manchester City after recovering from a hamstring injury.
The Gunners had suffered a setback in the UEFA Champions League in midweek when they lost to Napoli at Stadio San Paolo, meaning that Borussia Dortmund topped Group F ahead of them.
Last weekend too, Arsenal missed the chance to go seven points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League when they could only draw with Everton at Emirates Stadium, despite leading with ten minutes remaining.
However, this is the most encouraging season for the Gunners in a very long time, and a good performance and result against Manchester City could be huge for the north London side.
Bacary Sagna is certainly amongst the best Arsenal XI, but the French right back has missed the last few matches with a hamstring injury.
He could return to face Manchester City though, with a fitness test today to decide whether he is ready to return.
Lukas Podolski too is fit, but not yet ready to play a competitive game from the start. He could yet find a place on the bench.
“Podolski is available but I feel he is a bit short,” said Wenger, who confirmed he was “optimistic” on Sagna.
