Arsenal’s chances of signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin look very strong.
The Gunners have been chasing the France international for many months.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and PSG have also been linked with Schneiderlin, but the Emirates Stadium appears to be his most likely destination.
Online bookmaker skyBET make Arsenal 1-2 favourites to be Schneiderlin’s employer when the summer transfer window closes at the start of September.
He is under contract at St Mary’s until June 2017, but Southampton seem resigned to losing him.
In fact, Saints boss Ronald Koeman has openly expressed an interest in signing two players who operate in the same position of Schneiderlin, sparking rumours that he sees them as replacements for the former Strasbourg man.
Koeman has his eye on Feyenoord pair Jordy Clasie and Tonny Vilhena.
One the subject of Clasie, Koeman told Voetbal International: “I’m fond of him. He is on our list.”
On Vilhena, he added: “I know him well and I know what he can. In addition, we have no left-footed midfielders in our selection, a type like him we could use.”
Schneiderlin has made 251 appearances for Southampton since signing for £1.2m in 2008.
He has scored 14 goals for the South Coast club.
