Rest easy Arsenal fans, Calum Chambers isn’t going anywhere. Do the Gunners intend to start him next season?
Despite barely using him during the 2014-15 season, Arsenal have no intention of loaning out star defender Calum Chambers next season.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal have turned down a loan proposal from Southampton to lend the versatile 20-year-old defender/midfielder. Arsene Wenger has reportedly made it clear to all clubs that Chambers is not for sale and that any interested parties should essentially take a hike.
The Gunners acquired Chambers on a £16 million transfer from Southampton last year and gave him over 30 appearances in his first year with the club. But Chambers failed to display that versatility that made him a hot commodity at Southampton and he fell down the depth chart towards the end of the season.
Nonetheless, Wenger appears determined to get a return on his investment on the pitch and appears ready to use Chambers in either a center back role or a right midfield role.
