Did anyone know Park Chu-Young still played for Arsenal…?
Arsenal’s South Korean striker Park Chu-Young could leave the Emirates club on loan to join Championship side Wigan Athletic, reports the Mirror.
The 28-year-old multi-capped international joined the Gunners in August 2011 from French side Monaco, and has barely been given a chance under French manager Arsene Wenger. Chu-Young must have been pretty awful in training, because Wenger has only ever given him a six minute Premier League appearance, and a scattering of League Cup minutes.
He spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo, and only managed three goals in 23 appearances, playing second fiddle to Liverpool’s summer signing Iago Aspas.
Wigan manager Owen Coyle is desperate to strengthen his attacking positions after Grant Holt and Marc-Antoine Fortune were hit with unfortunate injures. The Latics have a hectic schedule this season, with the multitude of Championship fixtures combined with the Europe League.
Arsenal will no doubt be happy to let the South-Korean leave on loan, while the player himself will be keen to get some first-team football to help his push for a World Cup spot in Brazil next summer. Chu-Young has an impressive international record, bagging 23 times in 61 appearance.
